Discovering your soul’s purpose in 5 simple steps

Have you ever considered that you (and your soul) have a unique mission during your lifetime?

Some people are born with an intrinsic sense of who they are and what they should do, while others plan a life full of particular practices that will take them on the journey to their expected destination. Both have similar merits, and whichever way you discover your purpose is appropriate and right for you in your current life.

Each purpose is as unique and perfect as the individual’s soul. Some are born to guide the entire world towards positive change, stirring up passion and emotion in others, leading to action and evolution: whilst others have a private, internally-directed mission that is more of a personal journey to self-awareness.

But what do you do if you don’t know what your soul’s purpose is yet?

Well, I’m going to show you how to manifest anything you desire in just five easy steps.

Are you the type of person who has spent their life going from job to job, trying new hobby after new hobby, but never quite found something that truly sparks and keeps your interest for long? Then this article is JUST FOR YOU.

Don’t worry though, you’re not alone, and there are some super easy things you can do to finally discover what makes you tick; your soul’s purpose.

Are you ready? Let’s get to it!

1.) Recognize Recurring Themes:

Let’s start with taking a look at your life’s journey so far. Note down some of the positive and negative experiences or events that changed your life. Which of these happened more than once – maybe even several times?
We often experience events or situations various times if we are predestined to learn an important lesson from them, e.g., something helps us develop and grow, so we handle future challenges more positively.

Let’s use abandonment as an example. Perhaps you have experienced this a number of times, so it feels like a negative recurring theme. The positive characteristics you may have gained from the sensation of abandonment in your past may be a strong sense of independence as you knew you needed to rely on yourself, and you probably highly value the qualities of reliability and consistency.

If you combine these life experiences with the qualities and lessons you have learned, they can guide your soul’s purpose towards the following:

– Working as a Teacher, Coach, Carer, or Nurse (You know how important it is to be present and provide emotional support to children, family, friends, people in need, animals, etc.)

– Being a Leader (You have learned how to stand on your own two feet and work independently. You are resilient and can lead others because you can promote and encourage excellent team dynamics.)

– Being a Trailblazer/Trend Setter (You have a lot of experience of fending for yourself, so you are not afraid of trying new things or being unique. You have a great imagination and have always been very resourceful and adaptable, so discovering new things might be great fun!)

Ideas for our soul’s purpose don’t just have to come from negative past experiences. We can also allow ourselves to be guided by more positive recurring themes.

Maybe, when you were younger, you used to do a lot of cooking with your grandmother, learning all of her processes and discovering her secret recipes. If you still remember this with fondness and also have a love for food, perhaps the key to finding your soul’s purpose lies in the food or hospitality industry. Or you might have an inclination towards being a chemist and mixing a different type of secret ingredient!

When you take the time to look back at your life, pay attention to which memories and events jump out at you. Which ones have stuck with you after all these years? If you can recognize the recurring themes, you can identify how they link to your soul’s purpose.

2.) Listen to Your Inner Child:

As children, we are often a lot more aware of our soul’s purpose than we are when we reach adulthood. We often get sidetracked as adults and are conditioned to fulfill certain expectations that society places on us, which leads us to be distracted and forget our intrinsic purpose.

As children, we weren’t constrained by the harsh reality of being an adult (bills, responsibilities, etc.). We knew what we wanted, we knew what would make us happy, and we often did it without thinking. We weren’t embarrassed to sing or dance, we didn’t worry that we’d fall if we ran, and we had the best imagination when it came to playing with our friends. We could imagine being adults and often acted out what we would do when we were older, playing the role of the fireman, doctor, shopkeeper etc.

Re-connecting with your inner child through meditation can be an excellent way to rediscover what it was that you used to dream about because you felt it was your soul’s purpose before you had the burden of adulthood.

Through meditation, take yourself back and step inside your younger self. Take time to relive the memories and discover what thoughts, feelings, actions, and dreams genuinely made you happy.

Is there a way that you could include these things into your adult life so you finally start living your soul’s purpose?

There is a possibility that your childhood dreams were a bit unrealistic and now that you revisit them, you can see that they’re not possible to fulfill as your adult self. But this is okay. The purpose of this step isn’t to become your inner child, but to be inspired by them; their imagination, freedom, and energy. That’s not to say that you should hold yourself back either. Nothing is stopping you: if you want to aim for the sky, then go for it!

As a child, I had a fantastic imagination, and from a young age, I loved to read and write stories.  One of my most vivid childhood memories is of sitting in my favorite tree, armed with pen and paper, musing about magical, wonderful things, and writing as many things down as I could imagine.

When I was an adult and meditated about my inner child, I recognized that the adults around me were always impressed by my stories, poetry, and songs. I can also remember a time when I once went to the doctor, and the receptionist said, “Charlotte Rodgers, what a beautiful name… you sound like an author!” Of course, she had no idea who I was or even that I liked to write, so this was a pure coincidence.

As someone who now writes a popular manifestation blog, it strikes me that my inner child always knew I was destined for this.

We sometimes forget, but all it takes is the process of reconnecting with your inner child to see your soul’s purpose in its purest form.

3.) Recognize Your Unique Magic:

What natural talents or skills do you offer to the world?

Maybe you’re a great listener or an incredible athlete. You might be a creative artist or musician, or you can have a room in stitches with your wicked sense of humor.

Perhaps you have an analytical brain and can do a Rubik’s cube in less than 60 seconds, or you’re naturally strong and can do many practical things that require sheer strength.

We all have our own magic and talent, and this can be a clue to your soul’s purpose.
If you’re thinking to yourself, “I don’t think I have a talent,” I would ask you to dig a bit deeper and take another look. If you still find it difficult, ask your friends and family what kinds of things they love and appreciate about you. It is often much easier to point out the qualities we like in other people than in ourselves, and their answers will help you recognize your magic.

We are often gifted with these talents, not just to indicate our soul’s purpose to us; but to help us with the mission we have to implement.

However, there are times that our magic doesn’t fully develop until we’ve been through challenging experiences and we’ve learned the necessary lessons.

No matter when you discover your natural talents, as you begin to nurture them, encouraging them to grow, you will manifest opportunities that will open to you, leading you towards your soul’s purpose.

An example of this occurred with a friend of mine. He was an incredible musician but had experienced a difficult childhood. He had neglected his music for a few years because he was working many hours in a job that he didn’t like, and that didn’t fulfill him on any levels.

I supported and inspired him to take a look at his natural talents, truly recognize them and use them to reconnect with his soul’s purpose. He got back into music. He started writing songs and got some gigs playing at local bars. He felt like things were changing, but he still felt trapped by his stressful job.

After about six months of reconnecting with music and his natural magic, he got offered a place in a band. They toured around the country and played concerts in lots of amazing venues, but the greatest opportunity came when the band wanted to sing one of his original songs. The song he chose was all about his difficult childhood. It had been a cathartic experience for him to write that song, and the fans loved it. He started to write more and more songs and found that his own experiences and healing transcended the music.

Via the process of reconnecting with and prioritizing his natural talents, he uncovered his soul’s purpose: helping heal through music.

4.) Pursue Your Joy:

One of the strongest signals that you’re in line with your soul’s purpose is that you experience intense feelings of joy and happiness. These are indicators from the Universe that you’re doing the right things and heading in the correct direction.

So this step is all about discovering what brings you joy and then simply doing more of it! The road that makes you feel happy, excited, and full of hope for the future is the one that you should follow, as it will lead you to exactly where you should go.

Starting to write a joy journal is one of the most effective ways to pursue your happiness. Begin with writing down all the things you have in your life that make you happy. Then diarize daily the events, moments, people, and things that made you smile or feel good that day. Through this process, you will be more conscious of what brings you joy so you can orchestrate and plan your life to include more of those things! Consider how you can have more of the things that make you happy in your life and how you can turn a hobby into something more.

Think of your journal as a map or route planner that will help you reach your destination.
Joy leads to purpose, and purpose leads to joy.

5.) Take Action on Your Dreams and Desires:

The last step is to go for it and take some action!

People often have a theoretical idea about what their soul’s purpose is, but they never truly find out because they don’t take the appropriate action.

There are many understandable reasons for this, including risk avoidance (sometimes taking a leap of faith seems like it puts everything on the line), financial worries, or just the discomfort that comes with doing something unfamiliar.

But you have to believe me – when you’re living your life as you were born to, totally in line with and connected to your soul’s purpose, all your worries will dissolve and fade away.

If you feel uncomfortable jumping straight in, don’t worry! You can take everything at your own speed. Don’t force anything and just let things develop naturally. Even dipping your toe in the water is some form of action that will lead you towards your soul’s purpose.

Here’s a question for you to consider:
“If I had an infinite supply of money, time, and resources, what would I do with my life, just because it made me truly happy?”

An honest answer to this question will tell you your soul’s purpose. Write it down.

If you consider this to be your ultimate goal, what smaller dreams and goals would you need to achieve first? Write them down too.
Make a list of all your dreams and aspirations, no matter what size they are. There isn’t a goal too big nor too small.

Now it’s time to plan out how you can make your own dreams come true. Think about what action you can take to move towards your soul’s purpose. What can you do today, next week, next month, etc., to follow your path? How are you going to overcome any potential obstacles?

Don’t forget that life is a journey, and you’re always exactly where you should be. Don’t let roadblocks along the way put you off. Nothing is set in stone, so you can always vary your route, allowing your purpose to evolve as you continue your adventure.

Everyone has a unique journey to find their soul’s purpose. It will not serve you to compare yours with someone else’s. Your journey is perfect for you, and any obstacles that present themselves along the way are just there to consciously realign you with the destination.

Our soul’s purpose is as important as the next persons’, regardless of how big or small it appears to be. When you find, accept, and embrace your purpose, you are an inspiration to other people. They may heal from your words or actions, and, in turn, this can positively affect those around them. It is a seed planted within you, but with the correct type of love, care and attention, it can spread across the universe.
