10 ways to keep centered on your desires

Being able to maintain your thoughts and attention on what you want to attract into your life is essential! They do say that ‘thoughts become things!’

Centering yourself means that you are always really clear about what you want. This makes it much easier to attract to you, and having that focus will bring with it a level of determination.

This drive and clarity will ensure you are heading in the right direction, rather than allowing yourself to be distracted and go off-road onto tracks that will not help you get to your destination.

And ultimately, keeping your mind centered on what you want is fundamental for ensuring that your thoughts, feelings, and behavior are all interlinked and aligned to your goal.

Ok, so now you know why it’s important to be focused on your desires; the question is, how do you do it?
How do you increase your concentration and focus on your dreams so that they will manifest faster?

I am going to take you through ten ways that will help you with exactly that!

Let’s get started.

1.) Make a note of your goals

You should write down every single one of your goals and dreams.

It’s entirely up to you how you do this – you could have a specific manifesting journal where you note down all of your goals. You might write affirmations which are positive mantras that speak about your life as if you already have what you desire, or you could use the scripting method. Even if you write your goals on scraps of paper or post-it notes, it doesn’t matter. It’s the process of writing them and having them written down that is key.

There are lots of reasons why this is important. Here are a few of them:

  • Having your wishes written down gives you something that you can center your attention on.
  • It’s easier to be really clear about what you want when you have to write them down.
  • You construct a strong image of your desires in your subconscious.
  • When you have a clear idea of what you want, the Universe can understand this easier, with no risk of error or misunderstanding.
  • You are less likely to divert from your path. This is known as ‘Shiny Ball Syndrome,’ and I will talk about it more later in this article.
  • It provides an excellent source of reflection later down the line when you have successfully manifested your desires.

Making a note of what you want to manifest is the starting point of your manifestation journey. It is a  strong base from which you can set off with determination and focus.

If you haven’t already written down what you desire, don’t delay any further! Stop reading this, go and grab a pen and some paper and get writing. Come back to read tip number two when you have clearly laid out all the things you want the Universe to deliver to you. Have fun!

2.) Create a vision board

To really put your intentions at the center of your thoughts, you can make a vision board and place it somewhere that you will see it every day. For example, this could be in the kitchen, your office if you work from home or your bedroom.

A vision board is made up of visual images of all the things you want to manifest. You can also include words, for example, positive quotes that inspire you or concepts that you value, such as ‘love, hope, joy, peace,’ etc.

Take a large piece of card and use images from magazines, holiday brochures, the internet, etc., to lay out visually all of the things you dream of. If you have an ideal car, use a picture of that; if there’s a dream holiday destination that you want to go to, stick-on images of the exact place you want to go. Imagine having all of these things as you make your vision board. Feel full of happiness and excitement as you create it.

Every time you look at your vision board, you will be reminded to center on the things you want. You will feel the positive emotions, and your vibrational energy will rise.

Doing this in the morning will set you up really well for the day, which is why it’s a good idea to put your vision board somewhere you will see it regularly. Even if I’ve had a bad night’s sleep, seeing my vision board gives me the boost I need to get on with my day with a smile on my face, determined to go out and get closer to my goals.

3.) Have a routine


Developing a structured routine that you follow will also help you keep centered on your goals and motivated to achieve things every day.

Part of your routine will include some of the spiritual manifestation methods like writing or repeating your positive affirmation and visualizing your goal while in a meditative trance state.

But it is also vital to have some physical things that you do each day. Behaviors that align you with your goal and help you feel positive.

Don’t worry – you don’t have to suddenly run 20k every morning at 6 am, unless this is your thing! Starting with small things can also make big changes to the way you feel.

Here are some examples:

  • Make sure you spend time socializing with family, partners and friends.
  • Wake up earlier to ensure you arrive at work on time.
  • Exercise regularly – perhaps walk instead of taking the car (where possible), or get off a stop or two earlier to incorporate more exercise into your day.
  • Eat healthy food to ensure your body is getting the nutrients it needs.
  • Get enough sleep – this may involve going to bed earlier than you usually do.

Including activities such as these in your daily routine will help you to get a positive balance in your life.

You will feel more energetic and motivated, which will lead to success and attracting your desire to you faster.

It doesn’t matter if your positive activities don’t always seem totally connected with what you want to manifest. The aim of developing and maintaining a routine is to keep your mind centered on success. The more you have a productive routine, the less you will be distracted by other things.

Even when there is a slight shift in your central focal point during the course of the day, you can still rest safe in the knowledge that your daily routine is keeping you aligned to the Universe and that you are attracting your wishes at all times.

4.) Prioritize your subconscious mind



What would you say if I told you that 10% of keeping centered on your desires occurs in your conscious mind, and 90% is in your subconscious? It sounds crazy, right?

Well, if you think about it, it would consume you if you spent the whole time 100% concentrated on what you want to attract from the Universe. Imagine that you are at work or trying to have a conversation over the phone, and all you have in your head is:

  • My new house by the sea will be amazing.
  • I can’t wait to drive my new sports car.
  • A trip to Hawaii, staying in a 5-star hotel will be magical.

You probably wouldn’t be very productive in the work scenario, and the person who called you would think you were really rude!

Naturally, there will be things that you have to do which require your conscious concentration and attention. But this is ok.

The key to it, however, is to learn how to center your desires into the subconscious. This way, even when you need to divert your conscious focus, your subconscious can always be dealing with focusing on what you want.

Consider your subconscious mind like the side of the earth that is in darkness when the sun is shining. The part of the earth that is in daylight is your conscious mind. Any thoughts that are in the darkness are still there and still powerful. They can come into the light as the earth moves, or if you shone a torch into that area and lit them up. Use the darkness to sure your dreams and desires, knowing that you can illuminate them and bring them into your conscious mind whenever you wish.

You may notice that some of these subconscious thoughts automatically pop into your mind if you are relaxed and perhaps having a bit of downtime.

If you experience flashes of positive thoughts that are centered on the things you want to manifest, this is a sign that they are in your subconscious and have a lot of strength.

The more conscious and mindful you are in your routine, the deeper your wishes will fixate in the subconscious mind. Achieving this is the solution to attracting your desires easily.

There are other ways that you can rewire your subconscious mind to boost your manifestation skills. Here are some of them:

  • Write and repeat affirmations.
  • Listen to audio tracks with subliminal affirmations.
  • Listen to guided hypnosis audios.
  • Do things and talk to people about things that in alignment with your desires.

As a bit of an extra tip, I would highly recommend that you try Hypnosis Live as an excellent source of incredible guided hypnosis tracks. I have used a few of them, and I have really noticed how effective they have been at directing my subconscious to center on the things I want to manifest.


5.) Avoid the shiny ball syndrome!

I mentioned this earlier and said that I’d come back to it, so here we are!

Now it sounds bizarre, but you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about in a few seconds, and I’m sure it’s happened to you before. I am definitely guilty of this on occasion!

It happens when people make a decision about something that they want to manifest, and before they’ve even dotted all the i’s and crossed the t’s in their notes about their goal, they’ve moved on to something else!

This is why it’s called Shiny Ball Syndrome. It means that you get distracted and want to change your focus whenever something fresh and interesting catches your attention. It’s a bit like a cat chasing a laser pointer! If you have never seen this, google it!

The problem comes when you contradict yourself with these intentions and desires.

For example, let’s say that one of your wishes is to have a family, but then you take a promotion at work that involves lots of traveling and time away from your partner. These two things aren’t in alignment with each other.

Or perhaps you dream of attracting a sea-front villa with a swimming pool, but then also love to live in a city center location.  

These contradictory thoughts cause a problem within your subconscious mind, and the message that is projected out to the Universe is confusing. In other words, Shiny Ball Syndrome can lead to resistance and a barrier to your manifesting what you truly want.

I’m not telling you that you can’t manifest everything you want. You can, but you have to consider how all of these things fit together. If there is a contradiction, what is it that you sincerely want?

Think for a few minutes, and visualize yourself living your perfect life. What do you see? What can you feel?  How does it all link together?

Once you can really see it, make a note of it and stick with it.

Keep centered on these goals, and don’t let yourself be distracted by the shiny ball like the cat with the laser pointer!

6.) Nourish your soul



To keep centered on your desires, another important thing that you need to do is nourish yourself with the right kind of things. I’m not just talking about getting nourishment for your body from food, although that is part of it. You can also nourish your mind and soul with activities that align with your desires.

Ensure you sleep well, spend time with positive people who encourage and support you, and eat healthy food to boost your energy levels.

If you like to relax watching TV, choose movies or shows that reflect your goals and keep you aligned. Equally, if you are a fan of social media, use these platforms to follow people that will inspire you. They may be a good role model because they already have the life you desire, or perhaps they will motivate and lift you in some other way.

Spend time absorbing things that stimulate your intentions. As I mentioned earlier, the key to manifesting what you want is to train your subconscious mind to always be focused on your desires. This way, if you are busy or relaxing, the attraction process is still at work subconsciously.

So consume as much input as you can that reflects and reinforces the life you dream of! Eat, listen, watch, speak, do! Immerse yourself as much as possible in it.

The more you nourish your soul, along with your body and mind, the faster your energy will change, and you will attract your goals to you much quicker.


7.) Take stock and take action


As we’ve just looked at, one of the ways to keep centered is to nourish your soul with positive things that lift your energies and motivate you. Another way is to remove anything in your life that puts resistance in the way of your manifestation abilities.

Take a few minutes to think about your life as it currently is.

What is getting in the way of you fulfilling your dreams?

What lowers your vibration, bringing you down instead of making you feel positive?

Sometimes the answers to these questions are things or situations, and other times, they are people.

Make a note of the people or things that distract you and get in the way of you attracting what you want to manifest, and decide how you can reduce your exposure to them.

Things and people in your environment can significantly affect your ability to focus on your goals, so it’s important to control who you spend your time with, what you do, and where. If something doesn’t serve you positively and push you towards your goal, or at least make you feel good, then I would suggest that you eradicate it from your life. Or at least, don’t give it as much time as you were doing.

I recognize that if we’re talking about family members, for example, sometimes we cannot just cut ourselves off from them completely. Still, we can choose to spend less time with them or avoid certain topics of conversations or events that we know will lower our positive vibrational energy.


Remember that when you grow flowers, you sometimes have to cut them back to encourage them to grow.

8.) Regularly practice meditation


We often have what feels like thousands of thoughts racing around our minds constantly. There’s no surprise that we find it difficult to keep centered on our desires!

Getting into the habit of meditating regularly is an excellent way to calm the mind and quieten those incessant thoughts.

Studies have shown that people who regularly meditate do better than people who do not meditate when their concentration levels are tested.

Meditation gives us more control over our thoughts and the ability to focus. Rather than feeling overwhelmed and drowning in the flurry of thoughts that we experience, we can recognize and pay more attention to our thought patterns when we meditate.

This is particularly useful in relation to distractions. Regular meditation will mean that you will notice distractions in your mind much quicker, meaning that you can let them go and not allow them to sway your focus.


9.) Manifest mindfully


Try and stay mindful and in the moment when you are using manifestation methods to attract your desires. Keep centered and focused on your wishes, rather than allowing your mind to wander off or be distracted by other things.

It’s quite natural for your mind to drift if you are making your vision board or doing the 369 manifestation technique, but really try and keep your mind focused on the present.

The best way to do this is to think about your senses.

When you notice you have drifted off and are thinking about something else, bring your mind back to the here and now. 

Take some time to consider the following:

  • What sensations do you feel inside your body? Are you warm or cold? Do you have any pain or tension anywhere?
  • If you have something in your hands, what does it feel like? Is it smooth to the touch? Is it heavy?
  • Look at what you are doing – if you are writing, watch as the ink flows from your pen and creates the words on the paper.
  • Inhale deeply and feel the air entering your lungs. Can you smell any fragrances around you? Perhaps you have a fresh cup of coffee, or there is incense burning in the room.

When you have regained your focus, direct it back to your manifestation practices.

Spend time imagining your life as if you have all the things you want. Also, employ your senses in this exercise to really immerse yourself in the visualization and lift your energy. 

Being mindful and present in the moment will become easier as you practice it.

You will soon improve your mental discipline and notice every time that you are distracted, quickly bringing your attention back to what you need to focus on.


10.) Don’t become obsessed


There is a big difference between keeping centered on your desires or becoming totally obsessed with them.

It’s important not to let things get out of hand and become so fixated on trying to manifest your wishes that you neglect other parts of your life.

If you obsess over your manifestations, this can lead to you feeling depressed and anxious.

However, if you have faith in the process and the Universe, then you can sit back and relax because you know that everything is working as it should be.


If you have clearly set out your desires, as we’ve talked about, and trained your subconscious to focus on what you want to attract, then just trust that it is on the way to you.

When you’ve done all that hard work, then the next part of the process is to pass it on to the Universe. Let go of being in control of everything and have faith that it will all work out.

If you become obsessed, depressed, worried, etc., then your vibration will drop. These emotions do not vibrate on the same frequency as all the positive emotions you felt when setting your goals.

What you put out into the world when you have these feelings is that you lack something. Like attracts like, so be aware, as you are likely to generate more situations that make you feel this way.

Project into the Universe confidence and positivity that you will attract all of your amazing goals. Manifest them with faith, hope, and love rather than desperation.
